Yes diesel heads, welcome to my friday evening activity: resealing a beautiful Bosch VE injection pump. Note: This article does not explain how to replace the shaft bearing or how to set internal pressure. It is only a cleanup and resealing guide.
The pump is in unknown condition, so let's go for a good rebuild with disassembly, cleaning, and complete replacement of all seals.
A good lubrication of parts that push, contact, or slide is essential during the reassembly. Try to avoid disturbing the adjuster screws on the outside of the pump, otherwise you will need to take it to an injection specialist who has high-pressure gauges and precision flow measurement equipment to properly calibrate the pump.
These adjustments are customized for your vehicle and engine and normally never need to be changed if doing a maintenance rebuild or replacing seals. I did not take pictures of the disassembly, go in reverse from what follows if you have doubts for disassembly. This exploded parts picture is misleading since it shows too much disassembly.
If your pump has a calibration screw on the back secured by a crimped ring, do NOT remove it. Below are the different components of the delivery valve holder. The head should be pulled slowly and straight upwards to prevent parts from falling out of the pump. There is a long, tight-fitting shaft, the distributor plunger, which is the piston of the high pressure pump. This plunger needs to be removed carefully.
Some springs will fall out of place but it is not important. When removing this plunger shaft its position relative to the drive shaft should be marked since it can be reassambled in two positions, depending on the cam-plate. There is a pin in the cam plate skip to step 53 that forces the plunger to be properly aligned on the cam-plate, but the cam-plate can be assembled either of two ways.
One way is degrees off and will result in the pump injecting at the top of the exhaust stroke, not on the compression stroke. This camplate with its alignment dogs is shown in step 52 along with further warnings.
You will re-install this plunger starting in step 57 where several photos are shown. We see even my jeans clear through the bore.By shasdakotaOctober 1, in Diesel Engine Discussion. When I had my fuel pump tweaked last weekend the guy just adjusted the mixture screw at the end of the pump and adjusted the idle. He did not remove the pump, manifold or any other parts. It goes like a rocket ship now too with 17Psi boost. The only time my pump was removed was when they reconditioned the "O" rings in it. BTW, most links appear broken in my browser. Pre- combustion chamber Semi- electronic fuel injection. Straight-3 HR UD.This is to clarify where some of the components are, and how to adjust your pump. Adjusting the smoke screw so to speak. This adjustment is pictured below. If your pump has never been tampered with there will be a steel collar crimped over the threads. Remove that collar by some manner and loosen the 10mm jamb nut. Best method on the car is trial and error, typically a quarter turn at a time.
When you get close you may need to use eighth of a turn increments. But this can vary pump to pump pending on wear and such. Turning the screw clockwise increases the fuel injected over the entire rpm range. Turning the screw counter clock wise reduces the fuel. Keep in mind that when increasing the fuel you may need to decrease the idle, and when decreasing the fuel you may need to increase the idle.
Idle adjustment is pictured below, it's the screw closest the engine. The screw that is further away from the engine is the max RPM adjusting screw. Both of these adjustments are pretty self explanatory. WRT to the idle adjustment The idle screw identified in the diagram is actually called the "residual fuel screw" on the pumps. It has some impact on idle but overall if your throttle lever is set with that screw actually affecting idle, it needs adjustment. There is an additional overall idle screw, fast idle max RPM and "regular" idle min RPM screw that need to be adjusted to set the idle speed.

Anyone know what the stock setting for the governor shaft adjustment should be? I need to know how i will get maximum power output by VE mechanical governor pumps by adjusting coz we usually face the problem of average specially in combination number used in TATA 12tyres heavy duty trucks Will be highly thankful.

Identifying your Bosch / ZEXEL VP44 fuel pump
Hi- just trying to ID my injection pump- whether it is mechanical only or the electric version using the sensors. Thanks for any help.Skip to content. Board index In the garage Diesel Engines and Modifications.
TD27 injector pump install. I recently bought my first 4x4, a D21 Navara. It's got a non turbo TD27 in it, which was running great and started first pop everytime. I quickly discovered it was lacking greatly in the power department. So I began sourcing parts for the addition of a Turbo. Within a couple of weeks I had a turbo similar size to a stock TD27T turboa TD27T Injector pump dont want to be smoking excessively off boostexhaust manifold and all other small bits and bobs required.
Monday this week I set about fitting the turbo injector pump, got everything removed and ready to fit the pump. Fitted and timed the pump to 0. Bled the system with the pump on top of the filter, cracked the injectors then cranked engine and had plenty of diesel at injectors. Went to start the engine and this is where I got stuck.
Cranked the engine several times for about ten seconds each time. No sign of starting at all. Tried again about an hour later this time with abit of throttle, it fired after about 5 seconds cranking with huge amounts of white smoke out the exhaust, loud knocking sound at higher revs not a normal diesel sound and wouldn't idle. Adjusted the timing to retard it and it produced less smoke but still a bad knocking noise. I've been adjusting the pump timing back and forth every night after work this week and I cant seem to get anywhere, always hard to start, white smoke and that bad knock.
I'm mechanically minded and have worked on all my vehicles. Never a diesel though. This one has me stumped and I need a hand figuring out what to do next. The engine was running mint before I removed the old pump, no knocking,no smoke only the normal black under hard acceleration I would appreciate any help that could point me in the right direction.
